Dear Students and Parents,
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to Government Thiruvannamalai Medical College and Hospital (GTVMCH) – an institution committed to excellence in medical education, quality healthcare Professional integrity and compassionate patient care.
Choosing a medical college is a defining decision. It is not merely the choice of an institution: It is the beginning of a journey towards becoming a healthcare professional entrusted with the lives and dignity of fellow human beings.
Our Journey
The Institution has a long history of service. Functioning as a Taluk Hospital from 1950 in the combined North Arcot District. It was upgraded as District Headquarters Hospital in 1989 after the formation of Thiruvannamalai District.
On 1st April 2012, it came under the Directorate of Medical Education and was developed as Government Thiruvannamalai Medical College and Hospital. With MCI approval and affiliation to the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR University, MBBS education commenced from 2013-14. Today, it stands as a centre for education, healthcare and service.
Learn Medicine and Learn to be a Doctor
Medical education is more than textbooks. It is about learning to think critically, observe carefully, communicate effectively, decide responsibly, work as a team and care with compassion.
At GTVMCH, we provide comprehensive learning through classroom teaching, practical and laboratory training, bedside clinics, skills-based education, case discussions, experiential learning, real-world clinical exposure and research and ethical development. Students learn in the presence of real patients under experienced faculty.
Infrastructure and Learning
Our academic departments include Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Community Medicine and Forensic Medicine. Facilities include lecture halls, laboratories, a Central Library with e-learning and internet, a 1000 capacity auditorium and examination hall.
Hospital and Clinical Exposure
The teaching hospital has about 835 sanctioned beds, 1270 functional beds with 24×7 emergency services and Tamil Nadu Accident and Emergency Care Initiative (TAEI). Clinical specialties include General Medicine, Paediatrics, Respiratory Medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Opthalmology, Otohinolaryngology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Anaesthesiology, Radio-Diagnosis, Dental Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Blood Bank, PMR, Nephrology, Cardiology and Radiation Oncology with super-speciality exposure. The Hospital has NABH Entry-level Accrediation and LaQshya certification for Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Anaesthesia.
Courses
MBBS – 100 Seats per year, focused on strong basics, clinical competence and Professionalism.
Postgraduate: MS General Surgery –11, MD Anaesthesiology-09, MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology-9, MD Paediatrics-7, MD General Medicine-6, MS Otohinolaryngology-2, MS Ophthalmology-2, Subject to NMC updates. Allied Health Programmes are also offered.
Students Amenities
Separate hostels for boys and girls, recreation, indoor and outdoor sports, gymnasium, common areas and digital library support academic and personal growth.
